Life has gotten very busy but soon I will have more time to call my own. I am retiring this summer from teaching. I have been teaching since 1972and I still love it but it is time for me to move on!
Soon I will have all the time I need to knit, quilt and spend time with my grandson and hopefully even blog!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-4781853004302129782012-12-30T13:37:00.000-08:002012-12-30T13:37:16.543-08:00Back after all this time!I have not posted here in a few years but I just wanted to check in. I am still knitting, teaching and quilting. My son is turning 30 in a few days and my daughter is already 28. Steven's son Koa is still the light of my life.
I have had a very busy year knitting, I made 17 hats, 9 children's sweaters, a dozen shawls/scarfs, three adult sweaters and two pairs of socks. I owe a sweater to Koa and Jesse but I am selfish and cast on another sweater for myself!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-80764884096644654542011-01-01T19:33:00.000-08:002011-01-01T19:38:52.346-08:00Happy New Years Day<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrFnQkSrFP8-Et9RPYzeayns7-k3HD_xRBTB14ZvO7AeaXwSZQW75GCVbvjVnj_lEMtSqIo-gAEoW_YMkr4RNxmlqYKtnGxmar_Ymdn0oCNEB067RtNAv-eklKKMgjPktJMR09bA/s320/Koa+jesse+and+Steve.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5557427548243287170" />

My little boy turns 28 Sunday. I've had a surgery which I hope will help me to get healthier and loose weight. I'm returning back to work on Monday. As difficult as it was to have my procedure done, I had lots of free time to knit and rest.

My grandmother fell in the beginning of September and broke her hip. Breaking a hip is life changing for someone a few days away from 98. Since then she has been from hospital to hospital rehab and yesterday to a subacute nursing home. She and my mother are confident that she will be "home" in a few days/weeks whatever. I'm not so sure. I think staying in the nursing home might be her new normal. Please keep her in your prayers so that the new normal for her is clear and not so hard to decide.Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-24408223985288442532009-10-03T03:23:00.000-07:002009-10-03T03:32:28.080-07:00Thanks Secret Pal 14!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi786U-bPgDWUqIO-r5-XTENX05tcXFZz8WrYKanlfP8Lt8G6jaKcXAsfRQfDRc_mHacHAPzZK4rk0J3MpJXB_HPzZKXRQjJomi2jk3XHukurodvhhYdxWRMPDYbCmksT-duWCl2A/s320/secret+pal+14.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388318251920550786" />
Here's my last package from my secret pal. I have good friends and I am able to be a good friend. One of my friends took me for my surgery and then the next day took me back for my follow up visit. Friends have been calling, e mailing and keeping in touch extra for the last few days. One of my friends blocked my black shawl for me and it looks great! A friend picked me up today for a few hours of relaxing knitting at Barnes and Noble this afternoon.

It is hard to loose friends. In the last few days I have lost two friends far too young. the first I found out about on Facebook. She was a super sweet women who made great goatmilk soap. We worked together on learning to make lotionand wound up sharing huge parts of our lives. I know few details of what happened and she leaves behind a huband, son, daughter and grands. We will all miss her.

The second friend to pass was a member of our Tuesday knitting group. She was also young, only 43. Sharon was struck by a car shortly after getting off the commuter bus. She passed away while everyone was waiting for her to come to our Tuesday knitting group. Sharon leaves behind a husband, brothers, sisters and neices and nephews and 14 pug dogs. She was a funny smart lady who brought new ideas and lots of energy to our group. She was the one who got us started on the EZ Adult Surprise Sweater KAL. Sharon will not get to finish hers.Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-65743165824647598802009-09-22T14:55:00.000-07:002009-09-22T15:01:20.521-07:00Day 2This my first day out of surgery. My friend took me back to the Doctor's office to speak with the Nutritionist. Now I'm exhausted and all I want to do is rest for the rest of the day.

The song of the frog was here again and the Swallowtail shawl was frogged yet again. When I'm feeling better I WILL find a way to knit this thing!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-88166041750414606542009-09-20T09:46:00.000-07:002009-09-20T10:02:52.768-07:00Stubborness Wins<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 169px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt3l38XQ2nMXB44_OS-FRufxesMtinSBXXeBnPHVazmdb7dUXP_uHuBnZVBLzCocvRU-ziHMLhRj-KeYxyk4-lTXFgyDpE5aHf8rjagm7z73KvOsQrbj92nenKpq73OiYd4Ou8pg/s320/swallowtail+lace+shawl+beginning.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383595772878816114" />
I started the Swallowtail Lace Shawl a few years ago. It was right after Bob passed and my mind wandered too much. BUT I had it in the back of my mind to do it again. So Friday, I cast on again and knit but I was having such trouble understanding the pattern. Over Friday, Sat and now Sunday the froggy song of RIPIT< RIPIT was heard over and over! Finally I went to Ravelery and looked at other's people's work and READ their comments. Now I get it. The chart I'm following only gives the six stitch repeat and only the six rows of the pattern. I realize that I just was not seeing the pattern from the chart. The chart shows the repeat which is the second half of the pattern and then the first half. Once I saw that it all made sense! I will get this done!!!!!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-39117247338425349902009-09-19T10:11:00.000-07:002009-09-19T10:47:06.625-07:00Some FO's to show!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYBGv_Uy1Z0rKXntt2usWkHcbMSBYMPF-1lnN-ARCloAQ7n7eS6SIvYL3VL86DhkAjkmyoBn5dw6VN5polfTXtOvXZO7V5lKu09I9KrQXnKm83h_saFScDAbUmfHu8K8R-CkB6xg/s320/downsized_0919091327%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383236366700725202" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKt08h440vPSiE15yNW2FP3VSbKtWTnjoXY7-17UZbojgQ8eARaivTfr0Zwysx6JCFAF5aHWyZXK9_FLuAcEnnJyf-G7FW0fy7OMHtY9UrX_PF0cNZFF5LfuyHI6BsbHJ0LwJv7w/s320/downsized_0919091327a%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383236130737501234" />
I finished a few projects recently. I started a Damson Shawl but did not have enough yarn so I finished it without the lace pattern border.The yarn is STR med weight. I love the colors. It is my new walk around knitting so I immediately cast on a new one.

On Monday I am having elective surgery. In the morning I found out that my insurance company is dickering around with an elective surgery I have planned for next Monday. Without going into all the gory details this is why people HATE their insurance companies. ?More drama will follow next week!

Then I found out that my son had his debit card cloned and his bank account emptied out. Fortunately the bank picked up on it and called him and most of it has been replaced but not all.

Then the worst news. My 97 year old grandmother fell and broke her hip. So yesterday she had surgery and did as well as anyone her age can do. Now on Sunday we will be looking at rehabs for her. So I've gotten in lots of knitting on my shawl, finished my ruffly scarf and snapped ANOTHER needle working on the Damson shawl. Pictures will follow when I can get to it!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-13938014473394218022009-09-07T19:43:00.000-07:002009-09-07T19:58:45.723-07:00Tinking Black LaceI have knit most of today and I am about 2 rows behind where I started. I was just rolling along on this project. I had the lace rows memorized, the chart was making sense and I was thinking "Why don't I do more lace?". Yes, pride goes before the fall. All of a sudden I realized that I had a bunch of extra stitches that the knitting devils must have stuck in while I was gloating about how nice this was coming along. SO I tried to pull out a patch and re knit the mistaken part. I just was able to make a much worse mess and then in true knitter's denial I knit two more rows as if a huge combination blob and hole right in the middle of the shawl would just blend in! Not only would galloping horse's rider notice it, they could disappear in it. So I had to pick out TEN rows which took me about the same time it took to knit them!!!! So I guess it is a good thing I love the process of knitting because I have no product to show!!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-72463461201117276822009-09-07T07:15:00.000-07:002009-09-07T07:25:48.110-07:00Picture Catch Up<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqqVHCaxPNcxK9EfNZPAXFUoJiHNnjJL4upkAzQFIFaYMcrFpBACMZ8ZXFJP4KL_x6U8kjl2F5apfm_Ithor90BqzL15mnB6dXyARcpw47PzbReKdH2EB_GSdVASiFI_QujUamxA/s320/black+shawl+in+window.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378730047378332274" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYIR0mSfGAE3tYU9IVrJ3bPny-z1Bq3DejaZb0UhfayIXlMUIlH4raWUzon5DK4Ty4O4y9kjS-uXhNedfWrSPQWMkDScyNg0mH6DYaUTz97gup3Ge6Ln4qtG3eJcWxzmCg2VrfMg/s320/secret+pal+14+2nd+box.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378729420054005922" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 261px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjELywT8N1u8F8St77wss3Y080FDt14oVYsH_I6LaG7K6mtajLe7-B6D8ys-vOnoNitZLQrTTuAfhvHVncyW1_HLEieQzXhuOGEx7CSUG69C12itzlAUo8v2xfnfECZDeQxYuKx3g/s320/black+shawl.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378729409505179138" />

I finally took some crummy pictures with my cell phone. It is a blend of alpaca and Merino with a bit of silver sparkle. No picture yet but I'll try the cell phone when it is light out. I'm on row 17 of the third repeat of a 20 row gull wing lace pattern. One more of this 20 row pattern then about 50 rows of spearhead lace. We'll see when I get this finished!

Yesterday I went to the 1st birthday party of the son of one of Caroline's friends. I got to visit with the quilt I made for him. I love seeing the quilts I make for these kids being used!

Today was I spent the day at the beach with my family. This has been a quiet summer for me, and a fast one. I made a few quilts ,did some knitting but finished just about NOTHING!!!
i am behind in keeping up withthis blog SO I will try harder -- just not today!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-76195915145525964552009-08-19T12:43:00.000-07:002009-08-19T12:54:34.112-07:00Summer just rushing by!I can't believe that summer is almost gone! I've been spending the last few days with my mother who had her gallbladder removed on Monday. She is doing great and I've gotten in some quality knitting time on my adult surprise sweater. I would like to have it finished by the time I go back to school.

Friday, I'm going to bring her up to my sister's house in CT to see my grandmother wh is in the hospital recovering from pneumonia. Never a dull moment around here. I still need to finish my friends's daughter's wedding shower quilt by Sunday! She may get a semifinished quilt and an IOU.

My son is off to work on a show in Canada. The secretary in his office mistakenly booked him a ticket to Ontario, CA instead of Ontario, Canada so he will be getting in late without car or hotel plans set up!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071507.post-54833687519861281392009-08-17T05:12:00.000-07:002009-08-17T05:22:57.543-07:00Monday, August 17I had a nice weekend, spent Friday at home while my friend's husband installed my new diningroom chandelier, it sounds so pretentious but it is a very simple one and coordinates with the inverted pendant in the livingroom.

Sat. I was up early for a class at my doctor's office and then spent most of the day napping, cooking and knitting.

Sunday, I got together with some friends and we went to Belmar to have lunch and see a play. A friend's sister and brother wrote the music and script and a group put it on to benefit the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Today my mother is having gall bladder surgury. I'll probably get in more hospital knitting with this! I certainly hope this is the LAST of my hospital knitting for a LONG time!Franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05140285292417726120noreply@blogger.com1
